I worked on the Cosworth Argo Closed Cycle Diesel during the larger part of its development at Cosworth Deep Sea Systems Ltd at Kettering, UK. Later I worked on this and other submarine propulsion projects at BAE Systems, Barrow in Furness, Cumbria, UK. This book is based on my notes collected during these two periods.
I did not want the hassle of producing a printed book which would only have a limited readership, and so it appears as an e-book. As I decline even to produce the two hard copies needed to get an ISBN number, you can refer to the book as "AIP Systems" D C W Morley 2005, and add a comment that it is an e-book of an evanescent nature. Extracts can be reproduced.
It is my feeling about e-books that if another site needs to refer to them they should include the .pdf file on that site. In this way books remain "alive" just as long as anyone is using them and then cease to clutter up the world cyberspace. .pdf copies of the documents on this site will be forwarded on request.
The structure of an e-book need not be the same as a printed book. For example, here all the figures are gathered together as a PowerPoint presentation, and you can open this and minimise it to accompany a reading of the text.
In principle an e-book can have links to other sites, but this option is not followed here. However, I have not hesitated to refer to other web sites, in spite of their impermanent nature.
An e-book can be developed relatively easily to take account
of developing knowledge. You will find the Revision number of the book
as a whole in the top right hand corner of the download page, and the
date of revision of each chapter at the bottom of each page of text
My knowledge of AIP is uneven. I admit that I know less about MESMA and Stirling Engines than I should do.
Material and comments about the book and the site can be sent to me via the contact page.
